My Second No-No

June 16, 2002
By Ryan Thomas
Ace Jimmy Scott stood on the San Diego pitching rubber with one thought on his mind. “I’m hungry.” Maybe he should skip lunch every fifth day, as he threw his second career no-hitter yesterday afternoon in New York’s 5-0 victory.
“I overslept this morning,” Scott told a packed post-game room full of reporters and teammates. “And when I got to the ballpark, I kind of forgot to eat.”
Until the bottom of the ninth inning.
“Macaroni and cheese,” he said. “The Kraft stuff. I started to crave it after the Gwynn at bat. Then I just kind of gave in. We were going to win the game regardless. I was hungrier for food than another no-hitter.”
